DIY Window Replacement

It's not as hard as you might think it is to replace a window. Usually, I prefer to have an experienced glass company take care of it when I need a window replaced, but sometimes, they can't get to me as fast as I'd like, or I can't afford a new window right away. I keep a few inexpensive panes of glass and some supplies in my garage so that I can temporarily replace a window until I can get the glass company to my house to install a better one. This is definitely something that anyone could learn to do, so I decided to start a blog about it to try to teach others how to replace windows. Whether you're temporarily replacing a window or you want to do a permanent job, you can learn the basics here in this blog.

Match Your Home's New Entry Door To The Style Of Your Home

Audrey Owens

If you are in the process of upgrading the look of your home, then you need to purchase a new entry door. To maximize the curb appeal of your home, ensure that the new door matches the style of your home. This is very important to avoid an odd looking mismatch of new door and older home.

Here are some front door style ideas to help you choose the best door for your home's individual style:

Ranch Style Home

Ranch style homes tend to be very angular and lack a lot of stylistic touches that other styles of homes inherently have. For this reason, you have two choices when it comes to matching your new door to your house:

  1. buy a basic six panel door
  2. buy a basic model door with grid glass inserts

With a ranch home, you do not want to do a high-style door or one with excessive decoration. While these doors look amazing, they just don't match with the basic style of a rancher.

Tudor Style Home

The best door for a Tudor style home is a rounded wooden door with a small decorative glass window in the top portion of the door. The door should be solid wood and should have iron hardware. In addition, barn style wooden doors look appropriate on a Tudor home.

Spanish Style Home

The nice thing about Spanish homes is that they look wonderful with colored accents. For this reason, a good door choice for a Spanish home is one that contains a stained glass window, either in the door or along the two sides of the door.

Arched doors also look very appropriate on Spanish homes. Even if the opening for your existing door is not arched, you can still purchase a pre-made arched door in a rectangle frame that will fit in the space.

Craftsman Style Home

The front door for your craftsman style home should be wood with small square windows at the top. If you have a wide door opening, then you can purchase side glass inserts that have the same square glass panels. If security or privacy are issues, then you can get a frosted glass.

By successfully matching the style of your home's new front entry door to the style of your home, you will ensure that your home's curb appeal is the best it can possibly be.
