DIY Window Replacement

It's not as hard as you might think it is to replace a window. Usually, I prefer to have an experienced glass company take care of it when I need a window replaced, but sometimes, they can't get to me as fast as I'd like, or I can't afford a new window right away. I keep a few inexpensive panes of glass and some supplies in my garage so that I can temporarily replace a window until I can get the glass company to my house to install a better one. This is definitely something that anyone could learn to do, so I decided to start a blog about it to try to teach others how to replace windows. Whether you're temporarily replacing a window or you want to do a permanent job, you can learn the basics here in this blog.

Five Reasons You Need To Replace Your Window Glass With Low-E Glass

Audrey Owens

If you have any glass that is broken on the windows of your home, you will need to have it replaced for the safety and functionality of the windows. However, you don't want to just choose any glass, especially if it's the same glass that was used before that broke. Instead, you should consider other glass options, especially low-e glass. Here are five reasons why:

  1. Low-E Glass is Low Emissivity: Low-emissivity basically means that the glass will control the infrared light, or heat, that is coming into the house and staying out. The glass will reflect the heat back from the sun to keep your home cooler in the summer and it will keep heat loss to a minimum in the winter.
  2. Appears the Same as Normal Glass: The biggest benefit is that unlike tinted windows, low-e glass provides the same benefits without actually changing the appearance of the glass on your home. This means you don't have to worry about having dark windows that appear uninviting for your home. It also allows you to keep the same view from inside your home at night whereas tinted windows would make it difficult to see outside.
  3. Save on Energy Costs: You can definitely save on energy costs without having to worry about window treatments. You can leave the windows bare if you wanted to, which allows you to bring in more natural light to the home without having to worry about also brining in the heat.
  4. Protects Your Home Interior: On top of all the above, the low-e glass is also going to protect your home, which includes fading from the sun. You don't have to worry about the floor fading or your furniture. Many people have to have window treatments to prevent this from happening or even having to rearrange the furniture so that it isn't in direct sunlight during the day. You can get the most out of your home without having to worry about this.
  5. Protect Your Skin: Finally, you can be sure that your skin stays protected from the harsh rays of the sun, as well. If you want to sit in a room with the natural light pouring in, you can be sure that you don't also have to worry about a sun burn.

These are just five reasons to choose low-e glass. Be sure to talk to the professionals about other options for making the most of your windows when you need to replace the glass, this way you know you are getting the most for your money. Visit a site like for more help.
